Know the Different Types of Hair Extensions

Do you want longer, more voluminous, and fuller hair instantly? Consider using hair extensions, which is a celebrity’s best-kept secret for gorgeous, shiny tresses.

But, the thing is, there are so many different types of hair extensions.

Learn about them before your next hair transformation so that you can choose the extension technique that best caters to your lifestyle and preferences.

Clip-in hair extensions

Clip-in hair extensions are the most affordable and fastest way to get longer, thicker hair. You can apply them yourself and it would take anywhere between 15 and 20 minutes. They’re also easy to remove since all you have to do is clip the extensions to your hair.

With proper care and maintenance, these extensions can last for about 6 months.

Sew-in hair extensions

Also known as weave hair extensions, they are applied after one’s natural hair has been braided. Then, a needle and thread are used to sew the weave into the braided hair. This type of hair extension is typically used by people with thick hair.

The application process is technical and you need an expert hairdresser. The weave hair needs to be removed every six to eight weeks.

Tape-in hair extensions

These extensions are pre-taped and then glued together on either side of one’s hair, and they are semi-permanent kinds of hair extensions. Typically, a hairdresser would apply the extensions and the entire process takes about an hour to complete.

They need to be re-applied every 4 to 8 weeks and you can go to bed while wearing these extensions.

Microlink hair pieces

Also called micro bead hair extensions, they are attached to small sections of the natural hair using a small silicone-lined bead. The bead is secured to the hair so that it stays in place. The entire process takes about 2 hours and it isn’t recommended for everyone. The bead might pull at the roots and cause pressure.

They are also considered semi-permanent as they can last for about four months.

Wigs & hair pieces

These are topically applied to hair and come in various forms. Full, long wigs are made to cover your entire hair and they can act as a replacement for your hair.

Wigs are typically used for reasons such as balding, hair loss or simply to accentuate one’s appearance.

Fusion & pre-bonded hair extensions

These types of hair extensions are fused to the natural hair using glue and other adhesives. It takes 3 to 4 hours to apply pre-bonded extensions. They’re considered semi-permanent and can last up to four months.

However, this method isn’t for all hair types and you need to consult a hairdresser.

So, if you’re thinking of changing up your look and get beautiful tresses, you can come to Curls and Tresses and seek consultation.
